Doors open with house recycling
September 15, 2021 – After a scenic journey through the Surfside neighborhood, our latest affordable rental arrived in one piece at its new home shortly after noon today! We are extremely grateful to Jamie and Elyse Leventhal, who donated this amazing three-bedroom dwelling through our House Recycling Program.
Weeks before the move day, Barrett Enterprises lifted the structure from its foundation using long, steel beams and hydraulic jacks. The building sat on wheels as we waited for the September 15th, the first day the Town will allow house-moving after the summertime’s blackout dates.
The home began its over-the-road journey at around 8am.

We bit our nails as the house made its way through lots of tight spots, but the crew didn’t let us down. Go team!
We are so grateful to our donors, especially the Leventhals, as well as the Affordable Housing Trust, the Select Board, the voters, and all of you within our community for making this possible!
Price-accessible rental housing plays a key component in addressing the island’s affordable housing needs, and changes the lives of generations of Nantucket families. Stay tuned for more information on how the tenants of this affordable 3-bedroom home will be selected in the coming months.
