(July 30, 2024) Several big milestones were met at our most recent rental project on Pochick Avenue this month. This recycled home has been moved to its permanent foundation, utilities roughed in, and concrete slab has been poured. Mercatus Builders, the job’s general contractor, will start the basement bedroom’s interior framing this week. A full basement will turn this formerly one bedroom donated cottage to two bedrooms, expanding our capability to house more people under one roof. A large window well will brighten the basement bedroom with natural light.

If you have been following this project, you will recall the over-the-road move from Dukes Road. We feel extreme gratitude towards the cottage donors, who saved the building from demolition while enabling us to provide community housing. Not only is this more cost-effective than new construction but it is far better for the natural ecosystem.

This project is only possible due to the generosity of our donors. Through a partnership with the Town of Nantucket’s Affordable Housing Trust (AHT), we expect to complete this project by the end of the year. This initiative furthers our mission of creating new, stable housing opportunities, permanently designated for middle-income households residing on Nantucket year-round.
